Doña María IV, Empress of Mexico (María de la Paz Carlota Maximiliana; born in Ciudad de Mexico, July 6th, 1971) is the second daughter of the Emperor Maximiliano II (b. 1947; d. 2008) and his wife, Empress María Isabel (born Lady Mary Beauclerk; b. 1949). She descends directly from Don Agustín I, the first Mexican Emperor, from the House of Iturbide.
HIM is married to Prince Carlos, Duke of Yucatán (b. 1966; m. 1989); the couple have two sons, the Crown Prince Ferdinando (b. 1991) and Prince Agustín, Duke of Colima (b. 2010).
The Empress studied International Relations in Harvard University, besides three other graduations in Ciudad de Mexico University. HIM speaks Spanish, English, French and German.
Doña María assumed the throne in 2008, after the death of her father. Since then, the Empress is developing a more modern relation between the monarchy and the Mexican people.
